In an era where resilient supply chains are paramount, Kazakhstan’s location offers it the opportunity to facilitate regional trade.
Kazakhstan is also participating in the evolving global energy landscape, drawing on its resource wealth and its stated commitment to energy security and sustainability. As countries seek to diversify their energy sources in response to supply disruptions and environmental concerns, Kazakhstan’s position as the world’s leading uranium producer provides it with an important role. This resource, along with ongoing efforts to modernize the nation’s energy sector, positions the country as a potential partner in the transition to more balanced and sustainable energy systems, particularly for Europe and Asia.
The same strategic focus is reflected in Kazakhstan’s approach to the digital economy. As global competition intensifies for critical minerals—vital to technologies from semiconductors to electric vehicles—Kazakhstan is becoming an increasingly relevant player for tech-oriented investment. But the country is not just aiming to be a raw materials supplier; it is also working to build its capabilities in the digital space. The government has launched initiatives to support the development of artificial intelligence, and provides local entrepreneurs and innovators with tools and infrastructure to advance homegrown solutions and draw interest from international firms seeking a stable, supportive environment. Among these initiatives is KazLLM, a Kazakh-language large language model (LLM) that reflects efforts to apply AI in a way that respects and reflects local culture.

At a time when sudden policy shifts and political unpredictability have become more common globally, Kazakhstan has sought to maintain a reputation for constructive dialogue and cooperation. This orientation has helped attract not only investors, but also visitors: In 2024, the country welcomed 15.3 million foreign tourists—a significant increase compared to previous years—suggesting growing interest in Kazakhstan as a travel destination.
The Kazakhstan: Born Bold campaign, launched last year, reflects the country’s aspiration to share its evolving story with the world. It highlights both the inner strength and the ambition of its people, while drawing attention to opportunities across sectors such as education, tourism, energy and transport. At the same time, Kazakhstan continues to emphasize cross-border cooperation as a foundation for long-term development and security, believing that partnership between countries, industries and cultures is essential in navigating a fast-changing global landscape.
This outlook is reinforced at the Astana International Forum, where Kazakhstan convenes partners from around the world to discuss shared challenges and opportunities. The first edition, in 2023, welcomed heads of state, leaders of international organizations and private-sector representatives, reflecting the country’s desire to contribute to global dialogue in a spirit of inclusivity and mutual respect. Under the theme “Connecting Minds, Shaping the Future,” this year’s forum, on May 29–30, will once again offer a space for open discussion of issues that matter to the international community.
