The Revolution Disrupting the Broker Space

It’s exciting to begin a new trading journey, and emerging traders often feel impatient to open an account and start testing their skills and ideas in live markets.

However, by choosing the wrong broker, many traders risk losing money before they have even left the starting gate. Shopping around for a good account is not the most exciting aspect of financial markets, but it has a major impact on both the trading experience and potential profitability.

A competitive market

The good news for traders is that brokers are offering increasingly attractive terms. Strong competition has driven down spreads and commissions in recent years, cutting costs for users. Technology is accelerating the trend, with most brokers converging on a handful of standard software providers that offer similar trading interfaces and execution.

The result has been an increasingly homogenized trading landscape. “Everyone's quite similar in what they do—there’s nothing more innovative going on right now,” says Greg Rubin, Head of Axi Select. Working closely with Axi CEO Rajesh Yohannan, Rubin set about developing a product that could break the mold and offer traders genuine value.

The result is Axi Select, a funded trading program. Since its launch in 2023, the program has onboarded more than 49,000 traders, with roughly $490 million in funding allocated and more than $13 million paid out so far.

A brokerage account, but better

Axi Select offers a comprehensive range of risk assessment tools and educational resources that help traders take their performance to the next level.

“It’s a complete flip around in the broker space,” says Rubin. “We are saying to traders: We are trying to help you. We know you need education. We want you to improve.”

The program’s offering is simple, yet compelling: It is a broker account that comes with excellent funding opportunities.

“Your Axi select account is a normal broker account,” says Rubin. “It's a real broker account that you control completely.” The funding element is organized through a parallel allocation account. “Once you reach certain milestones, we give you more funds in the allocation account,” he explains.

From a trader’s perspective, the risk-reward profile is highly favorable.

Traders have the opportunity to trade and earn profits using not only their own funds, but also share in the profits generated from the allocation account. “If you make money, you make more money,” says Rubin. “Why would you not take the opportunity?”

What if an account loses money? Rubin explains that setbacks can delay progress through funding stages, with traders who hit equity stop limits potentially losing access to extra funding in the parallel account. But whatever happens in the market, Axi Select never touches funds in the main broker account. Traders remain free to adjust positions and adapt strategy as they see fit.

“From the trader's perspective, all they have to do is trade their broker account like they would at any other broker. That's the key message: Just trade normally,” Rubin says.

You might expect more generous funding opportunities to be balanced by higher fees, but surprisingly this is far from the case. “Our pricing is as competitive as anything else out there in the market”, says Rubin.

Rubin is passionate about giving traders a better deal, but for a broker like Axi, funded accounts also make good business sense. “As a broker, we make money by having clients join our ecosystem,” he says. His approach is logical: Build a great product, and the business will come.

Axi Select differentiates itself from other brokerages in another important way: It shares profits with its very best traders, earning 20% on the profits of traders at the elite $1 million Pro M stage, for example.

That breaks an industry taboo. “Brokers don’t want to align themselves with traders,” says Rubin. Axi Select, however, has a real incentive to see its top traders flourish. “It’s a complete revolution in the broker space,” he says.

Funding built on trust

Funding opportunities are usually associated with the prop industry, rather than a broker like Axi. Prop industry “challenges” offer enticing funding, but often come with restrictions that make it difficult to earn money.

Axi Select, by contrast, approaches funded programs with the experience and philosophy of an established broker. Founded in Sydney in 2007, the platform offers multi-asset brokerage to tens of thousands of active clients in more than 150 countries.

“I sat down with Rajesh, and I said: There's a huge opportunity here because everyone's doing it the same way. Let's create a model that uses our size as a broker to take the industry in a better direction,” recalls Rubin.

His analysis proved prescient. In September 2023, US and Canadian regulators shut down My Forex Funds (MFF), a prominent prop firm. “The irony was, we launched on September fourth,” shortly after “the MFF news blew up and they were shut down," says Rubin. “It was almost like, well, here's the solution launching a few days after.”

Flavia, a 28-year-old Axi trader from Brazil, has personal experience of the drawbacks of the prop firm funding model. “It’s a segment that brought me a lot of disappointment—platforms that went offline, withdrawals that were prevented,” she says.

Searching for fairer funding opportunities, Axi Select stood out. “I researched the broker and I was surprised—the broker has been on the air since 2007,” says Flavia. “It is fully regulated, has many testimonials from satisfied customers and, of course, excellent earnings.”

Flavia recently achieved $100,000 in funding by reaching the Acceleration stage of Axi Select. “You have a very good chance of winning with Axi Select,” she says.

Axi’s ethos is about providing fair funding opportunities. With Axi Select, traders have the peace of mind to focus on what actually matters: Trading.
