Recruit Group Embraces DEI Efforts That Drive Employers to Open Up Job Opportunities For All

Today’s workforce is evolving, and demand for diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) across all aspects of the workforce is growing, especially among younger generations of workers. More than seven in 10 adults (72%) aged 18–34 said they would consider turning down a job offer or leaving a company if they did not think that their manager (or potential manager) supported DEI initiatives, according to a September 2022 survey by Indeed Hiring Lab and Glassdoor Economic Research. Nearly the same number (67%) said they would consider those same options if there was a gender imbalance in company leadership.

More people are prioritizing employer DEI efforts in their job search, and employers are taking notice. The share of Glassdoor benefit reviews in the US indicating that a company offered a DEI program has surged from 29% in 2019 to 41% in 2022 — DEI related benefits include employee resource groups, diversity training, and mentoring programs.

“Attracting talent easily and simply is a growing challenge for employers as we face ongoing worker shortages globally. Increasing investment in DEI initiatives is not just the right thing to do—it can help open up opportunities for everyone and support a brighter future of work for all humankind,” says Hisayuki “Deko” Idekoba, President, CEO and Representative Director of the Board at Recruit Holdings, a global leader in HR matching technology.

Recruit Holdings, which is the parent company of Indeed, the No. 1 job site in the world, and Glassdoor, a worldwide leader on insights about jobs and companies, is playing a central role in providing job seekers with greater transparency about employers committed to DEI. Given the unparalleled scale and reach of Recruit Group’s two-sided talent marketplace between job seekers and employers, its efforts are having a profound impact on making DEI a priority in the workplace. Indeed welcomes more than 300 million unique monthly visitors and Glassdoor reaches more than 50 million unique monthly visitors —together these brands help three million employers hire.

Indeed and Glassdoor are integrating DEI offerings directly into their core products, giving job seekers more control over their job search and creating more opportunities for employers to highlight their efforts and differentiators. Glassdoor allows job seekers to easily search for companies based on a variety of factors, including Diversity & Inclusion, as well as overall ratings from demographic groups including race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, and more. Glassdoor’s Diversity & Inclusion Workforce Factor Rating tool empowers employees to rate how satisfied they are with diversity and inclusion efforts at their current or former companies.

At Indeed, the Work Wellbeing Score on Company Pages highlights current and former employees’ sentiments on wellbeing at work, including their perspective on belonging, inclusion, and fair pay at their companies. Indeed’s pay transparency tools help job seekers by diclosing pay gaps that persist across race, ethnicity, gender, and other factors. Indeed displays pay information on job listings when an employer provides it, and if not, may show an estimated pay range based on its data. Where a law exists requiring employers to include pay information, Indeed requires employers to do so when posting new jobs through their job posting funnel, or indicate that the law does not apply to their post.

Indeed and Glassdoor are driving greater employer awareness about the growing value of their DEI and gender equity initiatives by sharing real-time insights collected through their products, data, and research. Glassdoor’s inaugural Equity Xray™ highlights where employees from distinct demographic groups report meaningful differences in workplace experience and satisfaction. Based on the input of millions of Glassdoor reviews, Equity Xray™ identifies the companies that are rated equitable in workplace experience and satisfaction as well as those that have opportunities for improvement.

Indeed research also uncovers how DEI efforts can be further targeted. A February 2023 survey conducted by Indeed found that 58% of Black job seekers in the U.S. skipped applying for a job due to the company not appearing inclusive or diverse. The survey also found that pay transparency and equity (58%), flexible work-life balance (52%), and increased representation (44%) were the top three DEI initiatives respondents said they would like to see their employers prioritize.

Recruit Group around the world believes that strengthening its internal DEI initiatives and employee representation are crucial to develop products and services that meet the diverse needs of users and set an example for other employers. In 2021, Recruit Group made an ambitious environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitment to achieve gender parity across all employee levels, senior leadership and in the boardroom by fiscal year 2030. In Japan, where the gender gap in the workplace is significant, Recruit is seeking to eliminate gender biases by reviewing its management requirements and removing unconscious gender bias in leadership appointments.

Indeed’s annual Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEIB) Report and Glassdoor’s annual DEI Transparency Report provide inside views on how both organizations are building greater DEI programs, representation, and equity amongst their own employees. At Recruit Group's global staffing business units, the companies are expanding management opportunities to women, and through their business, helping female job seekers of all working ages get jobs by providing expanded training opportunities.

Recruit Group is supporting job seekers and employers in meeting one another’s needs, wants, and expectations by leveraging its platforms and technology to advance HR matching through a focus on DEI and gender equity in the workplace. By aligning its focus on DEI, Recruit Group is capturing an important business opportunity, making an important societal impact, and driving meaningful change.
