Eco Design at Home

People now can live more sustainably at home by simply doing their laundry or keeping their food cold.

Samsung is creating durable appliances that have a longer lifespan and use less water and energy – without sacrificing performance. Designers are also finding ways to use recycled materials and make the devices easier to recycle once they reach the end of their usefulness.

Samsung’s commitment to bringing smarter, more efficient and more durable appliances to every corner of the home allows consumers to make their lifestyles more eco-friendly without compromising on style or performance.

A Chip With a Conscience

Anytime someone streams a video, posts a picture or powers up an online game, a computer’s memory chip is used. When added together globally, these requests and processes require an enormous amount of energy.

Samsung is investing significant effort to produce more sustainable memory chips that can save energy in data centers and reduce their overall environmental footprint. If all the world’s data centers adopted Samsung’s low-power green memory chips, the total energy savings gained would be enough to power all households in New York City for four months.

Samsung’s green chips are part of the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability across its semiconductor business through the continuous reduction of its carbon footprint.

Outside the Box

Samsung products are built with the environment in mind, including a solar-powered TV remote that is made from recycled plastics. And this spirit of environmentally-friendly innovation also extends to the packaging that protects those products in transit.

In addition to using minimal stickers and colored inks, Samsung televisions are shipped in boxes that were designed with upcycling in mind. By following simple instructions, happy new TV owners can become happy new furniture owners, transforming a corrugated box that might have been destined for a landfill into a useful household item, like a cat house or magazine stand.

It’s yet another way that Samsung shows its commitment to building a more sustainable future.

Giving New Life to Old Smartphones

What happens to old Galaxy smartphones once consumers upgrade to the newest model? There’s a chance they’ve been upcycled to be part of a medical exam platform or connected home device.

The benefits of upcycling are numerous. Not only does it keep materials out of landfills, but it can also reduce the cost of creating something new.

Samsung’s upcycling initiatives are part of the company’s commitment to the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It’s also just the start: Samsung plans to expand the program with additional creative reuses to give Galaxy users around the world the opportunity to join the company’s journey toward a more sustainable future.
