Tencent Cloud: Creating Global Prosperity

Migrating corporate operations to the cloud in China is an indispensable step for any company that wants to do business there. To succeed, businesses need the right technology partner.

Tencent Cloud, with more than a decade of experience, innovative expertise and a fast-growing international presence, has developed intelligent, low-maintenance and flexible cloud solutions and unique C2B offerings for international businesses in China and around the world.

Poshu Yeung, Senior Vice President, Tencent Cloud International

“With our local expertise and global coverage, we believe Tencent Cloud is one of the preferred partners for many multinational companies to connect with China,” says Poshu Yeung, Senior Vice President at Tencent Cloud International. “Because of the company’s enormous ecosystem and deep understanding of Chinese consumer needs, we are able to provide one-stop cloud solutions to enterprises wanting to expand their footprint in China.”

Comprehensive Solutions for Entering the China Market

With guidance and support from Tencent Cloud, companies can enter China and access a comprehensive suite of services to get their operations up and running successfully, including business registrations, security solutions and massive data analysis, leading Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) applications, enterprise-level applications, and a package of GTM solutions — all of which help firms engage with Chinese consumers.

By tapping Tencent’s experience in connecting businesses to appropriate resources to address technical requirements mandated by local regulations, and combining that with the company’s expertise in reaching all corners of the consumer market, companies have a greater opportunity to succeed in China.

“Our C2B2C strategy, for example, is unique,” Yeung says. “On the consumer side, we have major social platforms – WeChat, Weixin and QQ – which reach billions of users, as well as offering long-term user insights and operational experience.”

“With consumers as a starting point, Tencent Cloud has created advanced C2B products and solutions for industries – applying its two decades of experience in consumer Internet, messaging, audio, video and gaming technologies. Tencent Cloud is also integrating the latest innovations for artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing and security to help businesses reduce costs, increase efficiency and identify new business models and opportunities.

“The significance of Tencent Cloud doing C2B is that it is not limited to IaaS or PaaS, but leveraging solutions in order to address customer needs. Tencent Cloud feeds that C-side experience and expertise to partners, and provides connectors such as Weixin’s official accounts, Mini Programs, digital payments, and WeCom, so that enterprises can better serve users, improve the efficiency of supply-and-demand-matching, and close the C2B2C loop. Our C2B strategy will continue to create value in the full-cycle development of the industrial Internet.

“Instead of providing cookie-cutter solutions, we are committed to delivering a bespoke portfolio of services optimized for the specific needs and requirements of our customers. This approach means that Tencent Cloud offers customers the option for segregated and localized data storage.”

This, in turn, will drive future momentum and scope in Tencent Cloud’s operations. Digital financial services continue to be an area of strong growth, along with e-commerce, the digitization of public services and industries, videolization, and the increasing collaboration between enterprises and their users through communication and productivity tools.

Growing Global Reach

Tencent’s reach is now indisputably global, and it is expanding rapidly. Tencent Cloud has deployed more than 300 cloud solutions and products globally. The company recently strengthened its worldwide footprint with the launch of Internet Data Centres (IDC), the latest addition to a growing infrastructure network that spans 27 regions and 68 availability zones.

In addition, Tencent Cloud has a content delivery network with more than 2,800 global acceleration nodes across more than 70 countries and regions, with a combined bandwidth of over 200 tbps.

Tencent Cloud announced a plan in March 2021 to set up its first Middle East-North Africa region IDC Hub in Bahrain, added its first IDC in Jakarta the following month, and launched four new IDCs in Frankfurt, Bangkok, Tokyo and Hong Kong in June. Tencent Cloud has become the first China-based company – and only the fifth worldwide – to operate more than 1 million servers.

Tencent Cloud has reached a 90% of audio and video customers in China, and tops the rankings in video cloud solution revenue, according to IDC.

“It’s all down to our DNA. Tencent Cloud is a strong player in the industry, thanks to years of accumulated experience and expertise in technology innovation, in particular in games, audio and video, social communications, financial technology services, and more,” Yeung said.

Tencent Cloud’s innovative excellence has been recognised with awards from Frost & Sullivan and the Singapore Business Review. It was also placed in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Cloud Infrastructure and Platform services, Cloud AI Developer services, and Database Management.

The success has been proven as Tencent Cloud International’s revenue more than doubled in 2020-2021 as it continues exploring opportunities in overseas markets.

Expanding Ecosystem, Accelerating Growth

Tencent Cloud’s expansion is fuelling growth in its service ecosystem, from financial services products, to livestreaming, gaming and even Smart City solutions.

“There is an exciting future ahead,” says Yeung. “As Tencent Cloud’s services expand, we will continue to help more and more international companies enter China, and Chinese companies enter the global market.

“By establishing a worldwide cloud partner ecosystem through upcoming expansion in regions such as Australia, Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa, Tencent Cloud will integrate and promote partner products and services, share end-to-end business opportunities with regional partners, and ultimately create value for our clients in China and around the world.”
